Our very own offices are an excellent place to start addressing long-held beliefs, customs, and culture, as such AMCHAM is proud to facilitate conversations surrounding this topic in conjunction with International Women's Day 2022 themed - "Break the Bias".

Join AMCHAM for our Women's Week on March 15-17, to uncover the many ways our perspectives can contribute to a new way of thinking and acting that can lead to greater diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our working environments. Featuring many panel discussions, your participation in the conversation will help us explore actionable ways to combat bias at the workplace.

On day 3, we will explore the importance of changing the mindset towards advocating DEI at the workplace and encourage women to actively engage to remove the barriers and close the gap with technology.

Antony Lee

Chief Executive Officer at AIG Malaysia Insurance Berhad

Antony Lee is the Chief Executive Officer of AIG Malaysia. Antony, a Malaysian citizen, has been in the insurance sector for over 19 years. Prior to this appointment, he was the CEO of AIG Vietnam from 2011 where his responsibilities included the development of a key growth country for AIG within the Asia Pacific region. He began his career at AIG in 2001 as VP of Business Development with AIG’s Software International JV based in Malaysia.

Antony holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Diploma in Architecture from University College London and is also a graduate of AIG’s Executive Development Management program.

He was a board member of the Women’s Individual Squash Players’ Association (WISPA) from 2007 to 2012 and was actively involved in raising the profile of the game worldwide. In addition, he served as Vice President of the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia from 2004-2006, as well as Chairman of the Squash Rackets Association of Federal Territory from 2005-2006. He led the Malaysian Squash Team to the Commonwealth Games in 2006. He was also part of the bid committee that successfully won the right for Malaysia to host the Commonwealth Games in 1998.

On the charitable front, he is a committee member of the Olympic Council of Malaysia Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes’ Education Fund, and has been organizing annual charity events in aid of Malaysian athletes on an annual basis since 2002.

He is currently the Chairman of the General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) as well as the Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII). He is also a director of the Ombudsman for Financial Services (OFS) and the Financial Services Professional Board (FSPB) and sits on the Board of Governors of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM)
council.

Adding further to Antony’s impressive list of appointments, he is also a board member of the Ombudsman for Financial Services (OFS), the Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) and the Financial Community Outreach Programme (FINCO). Being one of the founding members for AMCHAM, it is to no surprise that AIG Malaysia has had a long standing history with AMCHAM. AIG is also one of the largest foreign insurers for local employment with a total of 1,800 employees across four entities and has been actively sponsoring the Corporate Partnership Program.

Sugunah Verumandy is the Country Human Resource Director for Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in Malaysia (HSBC). She joined HSBC after a stint with Dairy Farm International, a retail arm in Food & Health & Beauty. Prior to Dairy Farm, as part of her passion for National Service, Sugunah led the Industry Partnership and Malaysia Professional team in Talent Corporation Malaysia, an agency within the Ministry of Human Resources. Other key roles she held were Human Resource Director for General Electric, (GE), Power Asia Pacific, a role she was promoted into after a stint as Corporate Human Resource Director for GE Malaysia and Brunei. She has led several major Human Resource initiatives for her previous Fortune 500 and leading employers such as Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Ericsson Telecommunications. In all the companies, she has earned leadership awards and recognition

A practitioner in the dynamics of human capital, Sugunah has led numerous human resource strategies that encompasses elements that drives business needs and supports employees’ aspirations. She has extensive experience in business partnering, organizational development, facilitating talent and change management including leadership, diversity and inclusion programs. Her role has brought her to many countries across Asia Pacific, Europe and United States. In GE, she led a number of change and pilot initiatives that were replicated in other markets in the region as a core best practice.

Sugunah received a Masters in Human Resource Management from University of Western Sydney, Australia and BSc Hons (Human Development) from University Putra Malaysia. Her efforts in women initiatives in GE and externally led GE to receive the Most prestigious Country Award for Empowerment of Women and other recognitions including Best Overall Company and Best Company in Workplace Practices based on her overall leadership commitment to add value to business and people. Sugunah was the Gold Award recipient of MIHRM Human Resource Leader for the Year 2014, been awarded Global Human Resource Leadership Award and been named as Top 6 Human Resources Coach for the prestigious General Electric Human Resource Leadership Program. Sugunah also devotes her time to volunteer activities and is passionate in partnering with human capital communities to add value to
organisation growth and talent ecosystem

Sam joined ManpowerGroup in 1999 and headed up the Manpower Singapore operation till March 2003. In 2003 Sam was appointed Regional Account Director with the Manpower Asia regional office and promoted to Field Development Director for Asia Pacific in 2007.

In 2011, Sam was promoted to Managing Director of Experis, the ManpowerGroup’s professional services arm, for Asia Pacific and the Middle East, whilst retaining responsibility for the ManpowerGroup operations in Malaysia.

In 2014 Sam took over responsibility for ManpowerGroup’s Managed Services solutions including development and delivery of MSP solutions in Asia Pac & the Middle East. He is the regional leader for Manpower and Sales.

Sam is a regular speaker on trends in the changing world of work including trends in talent attraction and retention, how to drive productivity of the workforce and re-skilling talent to meet the demands of rapidly changing work environment. Sam has advised government agencies on re-skilling workforces and establishing long term strategies to address skill shortages.

Dave Mitchell is Vice President of Operations for Boston Scientific’s Penang Operations. In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing facility in Penang.

Dave joined Boston Scientific in 2002, and has held various international roles within Boston Scientific Operations, including assignments in the United States, Ireland, and Costa Rica. He has been responsible for IT/factory automation, product technology transfers, plant scale-up, program management, and global operations strategy.

Prior to joining Boston Scientific, Dave worked for the Ford Motor Company, where he spent 7 years in manufacturing, powertrain design, and vehicle strategy. Dave also worked at Accenture doing strategy consulting in the consumer products industry. Dave holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Dave relocated to Penang from Boston, Massachusetts, USA, along with his wife Kristine, his daughter Nicole, and his son Kyle.

Chong Chye Neo retired as MD/CEO of IBM Malaysia in Dec 2018. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to helm the company in its then 55-year history in Malaysia. She currently serves as an Independent Director of Bursa Malaysia Bhd., Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd., KLCC Properties Holding Bhd. and QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd.

Chye Neo is also an honorary member of AMCHAM, having served on the Board of Governors prior to her retirement from IBM.

She has been part of the Information Technology (IT) industry for more than 30 years, starting her career as a software engineer on the plant floor.

In her 30 years at IBM, she held leadership roles that spanned across multiple disciplines of technical, sales, Intellectual Property, business and strategy development. She led diverse teams to successfully drive businesses in markets across 15 countries in Asia Pacific. She also led in the turn-around of a number of businesses.

She regularly speaks at forums on topics ranging from Digital Transformation in the pandemic/post pandemic era, the future of work & life in the Digital Era, Developing Women for Leadership roles and the future of Women in IT/STEM.

In 2021, she mentored 3 cohorts of women leaders organized by LeadWomen, ICDM and 30% Club Malaysia, and was a judge for the national level UN Women Empowerment Principles 2021 Awards and Kincentric Best Employer 2021 Awards programs.

Hana Raja is the Managing Director of Cisco Systems Malaysia, and has >12 years experience in strategic planning, business management and leadership roles across various sectors.

Previously, Hana was the Chief Strategy Officer for Cisco ASEAN where she led the Strategy and Operations across 6 key countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines).

Prior to joining Cisco, Hana was a Senior Manager in Bain and Company with experience in strategy, performance improvement, customer experience and frontline/sales transformation. She has worked with some of the largest companies in SEA to define their strategy and drive change sustainably, working closely with the executive leadership teams. A significant number of her projects involved helping organizations through their digital transformation and defining their ‘Engine 2.0’ strategy; evolving to succeed in today’s digital world.

Before Bain she worked in Schlumberger as a consultant, focused on driving Oil and Gas transformations in Southeast Asia and Australia.

She is also a mentor in Teach for Malaysia and Girls4Girls Malaysia; she is passionate about championing women’s participation in leadership roles. She has a degree in Economics from London School of Economics and is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Datuk Yasmin Mahmood is a much sought-after global thought leader in Digital Economy Transformation, Consultancy, and Implementation throughout the ASEAN region.

Throughout her illustrious career spanning three decades, Datuk Yasmin had served both the Public and Private Sectors, including top leadership positions in Microsoft Malaysia, Hewlett-Packard, Dell Asia Pacific, and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation.
