Media Statement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhiddin Yassin
Initiatives announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhiddin Yassin this afternoon.

1. Malaysian Citizens below the age of 55 years old will be able to withdraw a maximum of RM500 from Account 2 on a monthly basis for a period of 12 months beginning April from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF). This is expected to benefit approximately12 million EPF members.

2. An additional allocation of RM500 million will be extended to the Ministry of Health (MOH) for the purchases of medical equipment, including ventilators, lab apparatus, personal protective equipment (PPE) and intensive care unit (ICU) equipment. The government has also set aside RM100 million for MOH for hiring purpose of 2,000 new staff especially nurses on a contract basis.

3. The federal government has allocated RM130 million to help other state governments to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. This allocated funds can be used to assist small traders and hawkers who are affected by the outbreak.

4. The government will extend the PTPTN loan deferment to six months effective immediately.

The initiatives mentioned above were part of a more comprehensive Economic Stimulus Package and People’s Aid to be announced on March 30.
Import Duty & Sale Tax Exemptions for Face Masks
The Malaysian Customs Department has announced that Import Duties and Sales Tax for Face Masks will be exempted.

The Finance Ministry has also agreed and called for manufacturers of face masks to register in order to gain the exemptions. This move will take effect from 23rd of March, 2020 at 0001 hours until a later date is mentioned. Check out the attachment below to identify the category of face masks under the exemption.
