AMCHAM Update #31: COVID-19 Outbreak
Dear Subscriber,

During this (extended) period of the Movement Control Order, AMCHAM will be bringing updates on the latest COVID-19 developments, which includes the efforts of Government and initiatives from other bodies and organizations.
MCO Extended Until 12 May 2020
The movement control order (MCO), which is supposed to end on April 28 after two extensions, will continue to May 12 with the possibility of a further extension, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The Prime Minister announced that the MCO – which was first imposed on March 18 to 31 and later continued with a second phase from April 1 to 14, and a third phase from April 15 to 28 – would be on for a further two weeks.

  • WHO chief warns against lifting lockdowns too quickly: Dr. Tedros warned of upward virus trends in Africa, Eastern Europe, and Central and South America and warned that lifting lockdowns too early could cause infections to "reignite.”
  • UN agency estimates 1.2 billion fewer airline passengers: The International Civil Aviation Organization estimates a 1.2 billion reduction in passengers worldwide by September. The most substantial reduction is expected in Europe, followed by the Asia-Pacific.
