COVID-19: US businesses in Malaysia adjusting, seizing opportunities
United States-based companies in Malaysia have resumed operations and are adjusting to the post-COVID-19 recovery phase – with a focus on mitigating the risks that emerged while driving efficiency and productivity. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), Siobhan M Das, said companies are taking necessary measures and are adjusting in the face of the new situation. “Despite these challenges, and reflecting (on) the long-term nature of American investment in Malaysia, the vast majority of our members are deploying their Business Continuity Plan and managing the operations to mitigate the risks as best as they can.

U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir shares what she’s been up to back at home in Connecticut since late February. The United States is dealing not only with the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic disruption but also the widespread and ongoing protests over racial injustice. “When Malaysia imposed the MCO, our private sector, our American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur, and Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia all worked together to get approvals because some of these companies needed to continue their operations, as they are part of the critical response in terms of public health."

Recovery MCO: All AGMs allowed to take place from July 1
All organisations, including political parties, sports bodies and corporations, will be allowed to hold their annual general meeting (AGM) from July 1, says Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. With the decision, bodies registered under the Registrar of Societies (ROS), Companies Commission of Malaysia, Cooperatives Commission Malaysia and Sports Commission can plan for their AGM. “The special Cabinet meeting decided to allow this, provided the standard operating procedure (SOP) is followed strictly”

Death and taxes: Income tax return forms due by June 30
The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) is reminding taxpayers (non-business category) to submit their Income Tax Return Forms (ITRF) for the 2019 assessment year by June 30. In a statement today, LHDN's board also urged taxpayers to ensure that their details on the ITRF are up-to-date, so as to ensure a smooth process for necessary tax refunds.
