Procedure For Malaysian Citizens Wishing To Exit The Country For The Purposes Of Continuing Studies And Work
In reference to the Cabinet decision on 17 June 2020, students who wish to leave the country for the purposes of continuing their studies are allowed without obtaining prior permission from the Malaysian Department of Immigration. Additionally, Malaysian citizens who have entered Malaysia during the MCO period and wish to leave the country for work or reside overseas are allowed provided they can produce evidentiary documents.

Following COVID-19 outbreak globally, Malaysia has closed its borders for foreigners under the Movement Control Order since 18 March 2020. The exceptions were for returning Malaysian, Diplomat, foreign spouse married to Malaysian, Permanent Resident and those who have obtained special approval/additional permission from the Director General of Malaysia Immigration Department.

Malaysia leads other countries in Southeast Asia in the usage of mobile/digital wallets at 40%, ahead of the Philippines (36%), Thailand (27%) and Singapore (26%), according to a Mastercard Impact Study 2020. As the Malaysia market edition results showed, Covid-19, which led to wide movement restrictions, had driven momentum in Southeast Asia towards the digital economy by necessitating rapid adoption of e-commerce, digital payments and preference for online activities.
