Dive into the future of healthcare with AMCHAM's highly anticipated Healthcare Forum 2024 on Thursday, 29 August 2024 at EQ Kuala Lumpur!

This is your chance to be at our transformative healthcare discussions as we bring an ensemble of experts and influential speakers, including Guest of Honor Dato' Sri Norazman Ayob, Deputy Secretary-General (Finance) of the Ministry of Health. The forum centers around the transitioning Malaysian healthcare system towards a preventive and proactive model via two critical areas - digital adoption and healthcare financing.

We look to explore the effective ways businesses can join hands with the Malaysian government to enhance Malaysia's healthcare access, benefits, and the potential methods for public and private partnerships.

  1. Transforming Health Service Delivery: Includes prioritizing primary health care, optimizing hospital care services, increasing public-private partnerships, harnessing digital technologies, and ensuring equity in healthcare delivery.
  2. Ensuring Sustainable and Equitable Health Financing: Ministry of Health aims to increase investments in health, ensure comprehensive and affordable services, and promote effective healthcare spending.

10:25 AM - 11:25 AMPanel 1: Digital Health Priorities in Malaysia
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad envisions a comprehensive EMR system that integrates public and private healthcare facilities nationwide. As he told Dewan Rakyat during Question Time, "The ministry is taking a new perspective in the planned transformation of digital health by creating a Digital Health Division that will be responsible for creating a holistic, future-ready, and future-proof health digitalisation plan".

Key areas of focus for digital healthcare in Malaysia include:

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) nationwide rollout, addressing interoperability, opportunities and challenges
One Patient One Record vision, putting the ownership of health data records into the patient’s hand, how realistic is this and what does it take for us to get there?

What’s next on Digital Innovation especially on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare?
Insights from private healthcare facilities on digitalization. How can we leverage public private partnership (PPP) and collectively advance the national digital health agenda?

Reforms: Delving into areas of reforms needed from legislative, regulatory to patient empowerment and Value-based Care in order to realistically drive the digital health transformation for Malaysia.

Additionally, the MOH aims to digitize all healthcare facilities by 2030 to ensure easier health access for everyone in the country. Join us as we discuss how Malaysia is setting the stage for a digital healthcare revolution that promises to improve patient care, resource allocation, and health outcomes for all.

11:25 AM - 12:25 PMPanel 2: The Future of Healthcare Financing in Malaysia
The Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia has identified healthcare financing reform as a key priority, alongside healthcare digitalisation. MOH is focused on strengthening and improving the healthcare system across the country through various initiatives.

This panel discussion will explore the critical topic of healthcare financing in Malaysia. The conversation will center around supporting the government's social health insurance strategy while ensuring its long-term sustainability.

    Key Discussion Points:

Strategies for public-private collaboration in healthcare financing.

What would be the overall implementation of healthcare financing and the role social health insurance is going to play to support in overall strengthening the healthcare financing in our country?

Educating the community on the benefits of supplemental health insurance.

Leveraging technology (EMR) for efficient data management in a national health insurance scheme.

Fostering financial literacy regarding social health insurance, particularly for the M40 income group.

The large informal sector is a major challenge to the extension of population coverage in many low-income countries of Asia. How can this be addressed in Malaysia?

Reimbursement mechanism for smooth implementation to be established?

These priorities are part of the MOH’s commitment to fostering innovations in healthcare and ensuring that the healthcare system is well-equipped to meet the current and future needs of the population.
