In May 2022, the U.S. President announced the launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), with over 40% of the world's GDP represented in the 14 founding members: Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.

Since then, discussions have centered on four (4) pillars, namely: (1) Trade; (2) Supply Chains; (3) Clean Energy, Decarbonization, and Infrastructure; and (4) Tax and Anti-Corruption. Text for Pillar 2has already been released, and this round in Kuala Lumpur hopes to bring the other pillars to closure in preparation for announcements at APEC in San Francisco in November.

AMCHAM looks forward to your active participation in this IPEF Business Forum. We hope you will enjoy the exchanges and be part of the discourse that speaks to the opportunities and challenges within our new paradigm of business imperatives and trade requirements for a more equitable and sustainable future.

    9:00 AM - 9:15 AMWelcoming Remarks & Address
9:15 AM - 10:15 AMPanel 1: “Trade with New Goals: IPEF and The Role of Value-Based Trade”
This panel will examine how IPEF and the principles of value-based trade can provide trade opportunities across the 14 founding nations in the Indo-Pacific.

The discussion will center on how trade and shared values (across all four pillars of IPEF) can prepare countries for an equitable future amid challenges in climate change, geopolitics and the global economy.

A guiding conversation to the panel will focus on what IPEF could mean for approximately 2.5 billion individuals across the Indo-Pacific and how injecting value-based trading will provide greater sustainability, corporate growth and profitability and better socio-economic opportunities for the long-term.

The panel centers on the recently concluded Pillar 2 on Supply Chain and its impact on supply chains connecting the US with the rest of the Indo-Pacific.

The discussion will be centered on the questions of how best the private sector can contribute and work with governments locally and across the Indo-Pacific to strengthen global supply chains as IPEF nations seek closer collaboration and integration.

Additional insights to focus on lessons learned from recent threats and disruptions to the movement of global and regional trade (COVID, natural disasters, etc.) and the potential for public-private collaborations under Pillar 2 including smaller groupings and how best to maximize communication.
11:40 AM - 12:50 PMPanel 3: “Moving Forward: Lessons, Expectations and Considerations of a Changing Indo-Pacific”
This discussion will explore how companies in the region can leverage participation in capacity building and sharing of knowledge. How a more integrated policy framework across the 14 IPEF nations can drive development and encourage inclusivity for profits and sustainability.

This panel will look at the policy gaps that still need to be filled in and what bridging elements that are required for IPEF to be successfully deployed.
