Sugunah Verumandy is the Country Human Resource Director for Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in Malaysia (HSBC). She joined HSBC after a stint with Dairy Farm International, a retail arm in Food & Health & Beauty. Prior to Dairy Farm, as part of her passion for National Service, Sugunah led the Industry Partnership and Malaysia Professional team in Talent Corporation Malaysia, an agency within the Ministry of Human Resources. Other key roles she held were Human Resource Director for General Electric, (GE), Power Asia Pacific, a role she was promoted into after a stint as Corporate Human Resource Director for GE Malaysia and Brunei. She has led several major Human Resource initiatives for her previous Fortune 500 and leading employers such as Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Ericsson Telecommunications. A practitioner in the dynamics of human capital, Sugunah has led numerous human resource strategies that encompasses elements that drives business needs and supports employees’ aspirations. She has extensive experience in business partnering, organizational development, facilitating talent and change management including leadership, diversity and inclusion programs. Her role has brought her to many countries across Asia Pacific, Europe and United States. In GE, she led a number of change and pilot initiatives that were replicated in other markets in the region as a core best practice.
Sugunah received a Masters in Human Resource Management from University of Western Sydney, Australia and BSc Hons (Human Development) from University Putra Malaysia. Her efforts in women initiatives in GE and externally led GE to receive the Most prestigious Country Award for Empowerment of Women and other recognitions including Best Overall Company and Best Company in Workplace Practices based on her overall leadership commitment to add value to business and people. Sugunah was the Gold Award recipient of MIHRM Human Resource Leader for the Year 2014, been awarded Global Human Resource Leadership Award and been named as Top 6 Human Resources Coach for the prestigious General Electric Human Resource Leadership Program.
