United States Secretary of State Antony J Blinken today called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at his office at the Parliament building. The meeting at 2.30pm lasted about half an hour.

Blinken arrived in Malaysia Tuesday night (14 December) for a two-day working visit to Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is his second stop of a three-country tour of South-east Asia.

The United States Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on Wednesday (Dec 15) commended Malaysia's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and was also appreciative of Malaysia's contribution of vaccines to Covax, a worldwide vaccine sharing initiative. Blinken said because of Malaysia's remarkable leadership and success, it even had the capacity to distribute excess vaccines to other countries and even to Covax.

Malaysia ranks first among the RCEP member states in terms of growth rate for the e-commerce market, having developed rapidly over recent years. In their most recent report - Technology-empowered Digital Trade in Asia Pacific, Deloitte said that in 2021, the total size of Malaysia’s e-commerce market stood at US$6.297 billion, representing 61.4% of the e-commerce market size in China and ranking among developing markets after Indonesia and Thailand.
