The AmChams of the Asia Pacific (AAP) is organizing the 2023 AAP Business Summit, held in partnership with Trade Winds ASEAN and the US Commercial Service in Bangkok, Thailand from 13 to15 March, 2023.

This three-day program is designed to help companies achieve growth and exposure in the Asian markets with exciting conference programing as well as multiple networking opportunities with leading U.S. and multinational companies, senior U.S. commercial diplomats from over 20 Asian countries, regional industry experts and government officials.

A small delegation of AMCHAM Members met with MITI’s Deputy Minister Chin Tong Liew and his bilateral/trade/investment teams. The discussion was productive as the subject on the opportunities for growing U.S. investments even further was tackled.

In a post-pandemic era, Malaysia has ratified Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

As of 2022, RCEP members contributed 58.1% of Malaysia’s total trade while CPTPP members sponsored 27.5%. Even though RCEP held a larger contribution to the total trade, Malaysia’s trade surplus with CPTPP members was higher at RM132.9b vs. RCEP members at RM89.6b in 2022.

ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc has signed two project development agreements with Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) to jointly pursue carbon capture and storage (CCS) activation projects in Malaysia.

Under the agreements, both parties will define the following steps, including the maturation of technical scopes for the CCS value chain and evaluating the identified fields for carbon dioxide storage utilisation in enabling the CCS projects.

Already, increasing customer expectations, global political shifts, and supply chain shortages are adding pressure to increase flexibility and resiliency. In fact, manufacturing COOs ranked resiliency and flexibility as their two top investment goals in a recent Bain survey.
