On February 16, AMCHAM was delighted to host a breakfast roundtable with Ambassador Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative (USTR) and her team with our members, representing different sectors.

On Thursday, February 16, AMCHAM hosted a special briefing session with Executive Assistant Commissioner, Ms. AnnMarie R. Highsmith from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP). The delegation was also joined by Thea Lee, Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs from Department of Labor (DOL), and Cardell Morant, Director of the Department of Homeland Security (DoHS).

Naquib brings along with him over 10 years of cross functional experience in public affairs, government relations and corporate affairs. He was previously with the National ICT Association of Malaysia's corporate affairs team that spearheaded the development of resources, professional skills and programs and represented the local ICT industry in policy and advocacy meetings with key government ministries and agencies.

This collaborative session between Grok Schools and Oasis International School will host universities from the UK, USA, and Canada. They will share more information about how much it costs to study in these countries, as well as opportunities for international students to study and work in their respective countries. This event is open to the public. Prior registration is recommended.

In envisioning the future of e-Commerce, the MDEC team scanned the current e-Commerce landscape and actively engaged with stakeholders to uncover drivers of change. The exercise involved conversations with global technology companies, regional e-Commerce industry players and the local e-Commerce community, to learn about current developments and the direction that they are moving towards.

Deloitte Malaysia is anticipating that the global minimum tax (GMT) will be among the measures implemented in Budget 2023 when it is tabled on Feb 24.

The financial services firm said that “with all the developments happening globally, it is quite clear that most countries, including Malaysia, will be implementing it.”

As time passed, corporate refocusing has started displaying the hallmarks of a management fad, and possibly even a harmful one: firms engage in refocusing because that is what everybody does. The fact that analysts find it easier to analyze and value single-business firms than diversified ones provided even more pressure to refocus. Is it time to rethink the case for diversification?
