Once again, we find ourselves facing a brand new government, albeit in extraordinary circumstances, and dealing with all the uncertainty that goes along with the changing of the guard. To capture an immediate response to the new Cabinet, AMCHAM ran a snap poll and, as expected, the results expressed concerns for the stability of the government and the confidence for them to reassure investors and to manage the ongoing struggling economy. Meet Our New Government Affairs Specialist - Mira Ajib Please welcome Mira Ajib who joins AMCHAM as our Government Affairs Specialist. She will support the delivery of the Chamber’s government relations strategy aiming to strengthen the Chamber’s ability to be the “voice" of American businesses operating in Malaysia. Mira brings with her a wealth of experience tracking across the private, social and public sectors. Her background is in law beginning her career in the Malaysian courts. Mira however, is passionate about strengthening government institutions and she moved onto activist work to promote the principles of good governance, accountability, and transparency. Read more to find out. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT The 2nd Members’ Briefing for the year took place 11th of March at the Sheraton Hotel Petaling Jaya. This time around, we decided to move the venue to Petaling Jaya to allow members based within that vicinity to have the opportunity to attend the briefing. The main highlights of this briefing were COVID-19 and the new government changes in Malaysia. Siobhan Das, Executive Director of AMCHAM provided an update on what’s happening at the Chamber. On the 4th of March, 2020, AMCHAM held the very first event for young professionals under the age of 35, within the AMCHAM membership. The Coronavirus continues to affect travel and consumer sectors in Southeast Asia. It is even predicted that the effects could last for months.
