|Apec officials hold virtual meeting on economic recovery from Covid-19|
Senior officials from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) economies held a virtual meeting on Wednesday (May 27) night to discuss measures to increase cooperation on the Covid-19 outbreak and to facilitate economic recovery, Malaysia, the host nation of Apec 2020, said Thursday.
The latest tax alert issue by EY covers:
· Malaysian developments
- Tax deduction for secretarial and tax filing fees
- Stamp duty exemption on transfer of real property to a trustee of a Real Estate Investment Trust or a Property Trust Fund
· Overseas developments
- Hong Kong conducts compulsory spontaneous exchange of information for certain tax rulings
- Turkey collects Digital Services Tax payments
The “new normal” post Covid-19 pandemic will demand and necessitate businesses to accelerate digital transformation and adopt new technology to achieve longterm sustainability, said Altair. However, this would have an adverse impact on workforce, production, design, processes and market access, said the American multinational information technology company.

The tragedy of the Covid-19 crisis has taken much attention away from the threat of climate change, as institutions devoted themselves to protecting lives and livelihoods. Sustaining an effective public-health response remains a top concern for many policy makers and business executives. Severe job losses and revenue declines in some sectors, along with the high likelihood of an economic recession, have also compelled policy makers to mount an unprecedented financial response, which already exceeds $10 trillion, according to McKinsey estimates
The UN Conference on Trade and Development estimates global foreign direct investments (FDIs) to decline by 15 per cent this year. Already, this is evident in the slump in FDIs into Malaysia. Second quarter inflows of RM6.4 billion this year are only a third of the amount in the same quarter last year. Anticipating this fall, the Prihatin Stimulus Package offers more investments to supplement this year's RM56 billion development budget.
