Malaysia's National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme will begin at the end of this month, to be rolled out in three phases up to February next year, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on 4 February 2021. In a nationally televised address, Muhyiddin said the country will be receiving its first batch of vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech, which have an effectiveness rate of 95%, sometime this month.

In accordance with Article 21 of the AmChams of Asia Pacific (AAP) constitution, Chair Steven Chan appointed the following chambers to serve on the Nominating Committee for the 2021 AAP Chair election: AmCham India, AmCham Indonesia, AmCham Japan, AmCham Korea, AmCham Malaysia, AmCham Okinawa, and AmCham South China. The committee appointed Joseph Dowd from AmCham Okinawa to serve as Chair of the Nominating Committee.

The universal managerial imperative is clear: When something happens, you must do something. Still, while operational adjustments are relatively straightforward, even if potentially painful, it is hard to know whether you should you change your competitive strategy. It would help, of course, if we could run experiments. Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as a double-blind randomized controlled trial for competitive strategy. Even if there were, it would be too slow. Do something, after all, means now, especially in an urgent, widespread crisis, like a pandemic.

In ordinary times, successful leaders continually strive to master the balance between the urgent and the important, both in their organizations and their daily schedules. But today’s CEOs face unprecedented financial, health and safety, and operational challenges. For them, the problem isn’t balancing the urgent with the important. It’s that most everything is both urgent and important and, given the ongoing uncertainty about COVID-19 and its aftershocks, that’s not likely to change anytime soon.
