The whole country will be placed under the movement control order from May 12 to June 7 due to rising COVID-19 cases, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. "With daily cases exceeding 4,000 cases, and with 37,396 active cases and 1,700 deaths as of May 10, Malaysia is facing a third wave that could break into a national crisis.

Those who have to travel across district or state borders for work need to provide a letter from either the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) or their employer, along with a company tag, when stopped at any roadblock. A police permit is not required when an individual is travelling for work and is able to provide such documents when stopped by police.

The first batch of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines prepared for distribution here by Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd (PLS) is now ready to be administered to the public. A total of 290,480 doses of Sinovac vaccines filled and finished by PLS at its plant in Puchong have received approval from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).

Despite the recent reimposition of nationwide pandemic containment measures by the federal government, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) maintained its growth projection for Malaysia’s economy at between 6 per cent and 7.5 per cent in 2021.

BNM governor Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus said the impact on growth was expected to be less severe than that experienced last year when the government imposed the first nationwide movement control order (MCO).
