AMCHAM was honored to host Tan Sri Rebecca Sta Maria, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat for our fourth session of AMCHAM GATE 40.

Tan Sri Rebecca gave a quick update about some of the work that the APEC Secretariat has been involved in recently. Drawing upon some recent happenings, she also shared some insights into the importance of communications to organizations.

Today, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) held a virtual briefing on their MyDigitalWorkforce Work in Tech (MYWiT) initiative. The MYWiT initiative aims to incentivize employers to hire Malaysians via digital upskilling and reskilling programmes and support companies to hire digital talent through salary and training incentives.

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has reversed its earlier decision to test workers employed by manufacturers within parts of Selangor previously placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) twice a week for COVID-19.

A list of Common Use COVID-19 Vaccination Centres (PPV) have been listed for under the The Program Immunisasi Industri COVID-19 Kerjasama Awam-Swasta (PIKAS) programme.

As part of the Public-Private Partnership Industry Immunization Program (PIKAS) program, the Keysight Technologies vaccination centre (PPV) is now open and everything is running smoothly. Mass vaccination of Keysight employees underway!

A total of 46.7% of the adult population in Malaysia have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 21.8% have completed both doses. The progress of the vaccination process was in line with the target set by the government, but needs to be intensified, so that the target to fully vaccinate 26 million people in the country could be achieved.

Penang has reached the COVID-19 vaccination rate of over 30,000 doses per day as of yesterday, 22 July. A total 30,055 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered yesterday through the various COVID-19 vaccination centres (PPV) in the state. Penang ranked sixth compared to other states in terms of vaccination rate.

The second drive-through COVID-19 vaccination centre (PPV) in Penang began operating today at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). he drive-through PPV started work at 9am today to vaccinate second dose recipients. They will start with only 100 vaccine recipients today at the drive-through PPV.

Hospital Ampang has close to 150 COVID patients now in, and for the past few weeks the hospital has been expanding the wards in terms of manpower, equipment, and proper isolation spaces.

Both patients and clinicians need equipments urgently to be able to do their work.
