On the 17th of April, AMCHAM spent the morning at the Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) office learning about data centers in Malaysia and how the Chamber can be of support.

Led by Tan Tze Meng, Head of the Digital Infrastructure Department at MDEC, the session provided a comprehensive understanding of Malaysia’s burgeoning data center industry.

The Malaysian Investment Development Authority announced the appointment of Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid as its new Chief Executive Officer effective 18 April 2024 who will succeed Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman, who is set to retire from public service on 17 April 2024.

Malaysia’s Energy Commission has kicked off the second quarter of 2024 with an announcement that Malaysia’s fifth Large Scale Solar competitive bidding process is open¹. Known as ‘LSS-Peralihan Tenaga SuRia’ or ‘LSS PETRA’, this round of competitive bidding process sees a total capacity of 2,000MW being offered – more than double of the capacity that was offered under the previous round of the Large Scale Solar competitive bidding process.

The same advancements that make leaps in innovation, speed, and efficiency possible can also be exploited to access sensitive data and systems.

Beyond the cost of expenses, including, potentially, the ransom itself, downtime averages $365,000 an hour in revenue loss. When you consider that the average recovery time is three weeks, it becomes clear how devastating these attacks can be.
