On 6 February, AMCHAM, along with the MAEI Committee hosted the 2024 Welcome Reception to welcome our new Ambassador-Designate, H.E. Edgard D. Kagan at Amari SPICE Hotel Penang.

The Penang counterpart to our first welcome reception of the year, this session introduced the Ambassador-Designate to the AMCHAM members from Penang, particularly those from the electrical and electronics (E&E) industry.

On 5 February, AMCHAM hosted a unique gathering on one of the most talked about topics in today’s technology-led world with its first Critical Mineral Business Forum: The Opportunities for Malaysia.

The Forum was attended by YB Tuan Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources; YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI); and YB Howard Lee Chuan How, Member of Parliament of Ipoh Timor.

On Monday, 5 February, AMCHAM was host to a special roundtable, “The Future of Semiconductor Supply Chain Resiliency,” which was a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), the U.S. Commerce Department and based on the Memorandum of Cooperation that was signed in 2021 by Gina Raimondo, Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce.

Reporting directly to the AMCHAM CEO/Executive Director, this role is responsible for the following tasks:

The Administrative Assistant reports to the Operations Manager and the Business Development Manager, while working closely with AMCHAM’s executive leadership, colleagues, members, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the Chamber.

The Events Executive is part of the events team and reports to the Events Manager while working closely with AMCHAM’s executive leadership, colleagues, members, and other stakeholders to enhance the Chamber’s events portfolio and activities.

Plexus Malaysia recently donated a total amount of US$16,160 to three non-profit organizations – The Penang Home for the Infirm and Aged ($8,080), Charis Hospice ($4,850), and Children’s Protection Society ($3,230). This initiative comes under the Plexus global charitable giving program, where Plexus sites received funds to donate to local communities.

Microsoft, the ASEAN Foundation, and Biji-biji Initiative, have collaborated to launch the AI TEACH Malaysia program, aims to equip TVET educators and students with essential AI skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for the evolving demands of the digital economy.

The paper “Corporate Sustainability: First Evidence on Materiality,” published in 2016, marked a significant shift in perceptions of corporate sustainability. Despite its influence in popularizing ESG investing, the topic remains controversial with mixed academic consensus and political debate in the U.S. Recent research by the author has further explored this field, highlighting two critical aspects: the role of high-ability managers in selecting profitable ESG projects and the long-term value of ESG practices in supply chains.
