Immigration Department Issues Latest Travel Procedures

The Department of Immigration has issued new procedures for those seeking to travel out of the country, be it for those continuing their studies, diplomatic reasons, employment and permanent residence with foreign passport.

This is the latest of guidelines issued as the country is slowly easing travel restriction with vaccination now on full force, for business or employment reasons no approval is needed for those who require to sign-on in the shipping and petroleum industry. Everyone else will have to submit request from the Immigration department which includes for overseas job or study offers, attending meetings, seminars, exhibition, sporting events and any trainings purpose.

The portal has also been updated on quarantine and SOP procedures for foreign workers entering Malaysia, they will now have to under go tests and quarantine with all applications made by the employer and submitted online. Documents to be attached include official application letter from employer, front page of the foreign worker’s passport & latest Visit Pass(Temporary Employment), latest exit stamp, SSM e-info; employer’s Identity card or contract / Letter of Award of for the construction sector. As for cleaning service a copy of the latest contract is required. All documents must be uploaded in PDF not exceeding 250kb each, employers are permitted to bring in maximum of 30 foreign workers per entry only the documents is subject to further vetting.

As for foreign workers who are currently abroad and has obtained permission to enter Malaysia during Movement Control Order Period, must follow these strict procedures of undergoing PCR COVID-19 test screening abroad at least 3 days before and medically confirmed to be tested negative from COVID-19 prior to entering. They must also download and install MySejahtera app before departure and can only enter via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), KLIA 2, Bayan Lepas International Airport and Sultan Ismail Senai International Airport.

In the case of students going abroad for study, the issued guideline includes a valid study Visa and any other relevant documents that proves of their intention. Once this is ascertained they will no longer need prior approval from the Immigration Department and this includes for chaperones of not more than 2 persons accompanying the students at the same time period. However, the guideline differs for those who are seeking to travel overseas for just exam reasons, under the procedure these students/adults will need prior approval under MyTravelPass.

Permanent residents or long term pass holders who wish to travel out can do so, this is however restricted to those with Couple and Marriage Visa which are not officially recognised by the Malaysian Government. Approval is also required for emergency reasons including close relative death, accidents or hospitalised. Travel purpose and holidaying is also prohibited.
