U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo Announces First Travel to Asia

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo will make her first official visit to Asia from Nov. 15-18, where she will meet with government officials and business leaders in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

Secretary Raimondo will visit the Indo-Pacific region to reaffirm our commitment and strengthen our economic relationship with allies and key partners. Her trip comes on the heels of President Biden’s announcement on developing an economic framework that will define our shared objectives with partners in the region. Secretary Raimondo will meet with government leaders and private sector partners to discuss key areas such as supply chain resilience, digital economy and technology, common standards, and supporting regional infrastructure projects.

“Rebuilding alliances with our like-minded partners is an essential part of our work to strengthen America’s global competitiveness,” said Raimondo. “President Biden has shown tremendous vision and leadership in his effort to jumpstart a regional economic framework, and I welcome the opportunity to partner with allies. On a range of issues—from supply chain resilience and semiconductors to cooperation on the digital economy and developing infrastructure—America’s economy is strongest when we lead by example and work with our allies.”

Raimondo’s itinerary is as follows:

  • November 15: Tokyo, Japan
  • November 16-17: Singapore
  • November 18: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

In each of her engagements, Secretary Raimondo will highlight areas that represent important and new business opportunities for U.S. firms and workers in one of the most economically dynamic regions in the world.

More details on the trip will be announced as they are finalized.
