We have lined up a couple of views that we hope will be grounds for a robust discussion! On this day, we kick off with insights on the effects of carbon emissions and the way forward with renewable energy across various industries.

    Government Engagement Director of General Electric

    Abdul is presently Government Engagement Director, responsible for engaging across all levels of government, supporting all of GE’s businesses in Malaysia. Prior to his current role, Abdul was Director of Global Public Affairs for Intel in Malaysia, where he engaged with federal and local governments, multi-lateral organizations and trade organizations to influence public policies and programs in the areas of trade, investments, technology and labour.

    He started his career as a research engineer in the US and has since held technical, consulting and corporate affairs roles at United Engineers Malaysia, Accenture and Microsoft. He holds a bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, and a masters in International Business, both from the University of Toledo, Ohio. He is an active member of AMCHAM's Government Relations Committee

    Dr Wei-nee Chen She is currently serving as a VP of New Energy Ventures in Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd. Prior to this, she was the Chief Strategic Officer of Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) for 9 years. From December 2005 to May 2011, Dr Wei-nee was the Technical Advisor in the Malaysia Building Integrated Photovoltaic Project; a project jointly implemented by UNDP – GEF, and the Malaysian Government. Dr Wei-nee Chen holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the University of Canterbury, a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She is currently an advisor to the Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation, the Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association (MPIA), and Sunway University's PhD programme.

    Rosman Hamzah joined the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) as the Secretary General in 2016, offering the organisation extensive knowledge across the energy sector, contacts across the entire value chain and persuasive skills to effectively bring together stakeholders including regulators, government-linked companies, multinational organisations and key influences.

    MFGA is nation’s lead advocate for the natural gas industry, playing a prominent role in promoting engagement, discourse and dialogue with key stakeholders to develop a vibrant and sustainable gas industry, to fuel Malaysia's socio-economic growth and ensuring pragmatic energy transition towards a low carbon economy.

    Prior to joining MGA, Rosman acquired more than two decades of experience working across the entire cycle of energy projects with leading international players including General Electric, Siemens and Alstom, availing him a holistic perspective of various business models, financial viability and technical spectrum in the energy sector.

    In his role as Director of Business Development at Alstom, Rosman acquired extensive knowledge and experience across the entire power generation technology, ranging from fossil fuel power plants to those using renewable resources.

    He has spoken and moderated at numerous conferences, both in Malaysia and overseas. He was instrumental in establishing the Malaysia Women In Energy (MyWiE) that champions equal opportunity for women in the energy sector.

    Rosman holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Nottingham, a graduate of University of Bath and is a member of the Industrial Advisory Panel at College of Engineering, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).

She has > 15 working experience in Multi-national companies, specializes in Ultra-pure Water and Wastewater Treatment industry. First Solar, a leading Thin-film PV solar panel manufacturer, maintaining a sustainable operation in all aspects is the mission of the company. Kee Chin is chartered to setup and operate Waste Management Operation team functioning as the One-stop center for Total Waste Management for all the wastes from the company in most sustainable manner focusing on 4R approaches. Leading the First Solar Sustainability Ambassadors, Kee Chin is focusing on SDG implementation on employee engagement (employee well-being), operational excellence and environmental commitment.

    Jens leads the global environmental sustainability strategy of Philip Morris International (PMI), prioritizing and directing policies and programs across the entire value chain to deliver world-class performance.

    Much of Jens’ work focuses on combatting cigarette butt littering, the environmental issue most material to the tobacco sector. As PMI transforms to deliver a smoke-free future, Jens develops strategies to reduce the environmental impacts of the company’s products.

    Prior to joining PMI in 2016, Jens managed a national energy saving and awareness program in Switzerland, developed the sustainability program of Coca-Cola Hellenic, and led sustainability communications at Barry Callebaut.

    He holds a European Master in Environmental Engineering and Management from EPFL and a D. Phil in Ecology from the University of Oxford.

    Dr. Hjh Yatela Zainal Abidin is the Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD), or the Sime Darby Foundation, a position which she has held for more than ten years. YSD is the philanthropic arm of the three Sime Darby companies i.e. Sime Darby Berhad, Sime Darby Plantation Berhad and Sime Darby Property Berhad. YSD focuses on the five pillars of Education, Community & Health, Environment, Sports and Arts & Culture. The strategies of these five pillars are aligned to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations; so that the impact would be towards achieving a balance in the social, economic and environment dimensions of sustainability.

    Yatela holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance which she obtained from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in the United Kingdom. She completed her Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional degree at the Emile Woolf College of Accountancy, London; and went on to attain her ACCA fellowship. Due to her interest in education for the underprivileged, Yatela had completed her doctoral degree at Universiti Utara Malaysia, with her thesis entitled “Using Life Stories to Understand the Development of Resilience in the Underprivileged.”
