ISKL’s IB Scholarship Student Nurin A. Raises RM 20,000 Fundraiser for ‘White Flag’ Movement

Congratulations to Nurin A. (’22), a Grade 12 student and International Baccalaureate (IB) Scholar at the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), who conducted an online fundraiser successfully raising RM 20,000 to aid the ‘Bendera Putih’ or ‘White Flag’ movement! With the donations, Nurin worked with various non-governmental organizations such as Kembara Kitchen, Pertiwi Kitchen, SERUM Initiative, MBKJ Cheras and a single mother’s group in Langkawi, to purchase and distribute essential items such as non-perishable food, sanitary items, baby formula, baby diapers, and other necessities.

Nurin, a recipient of the IB scholarship, joined ISKL in 2020 and is President of the KL-based youth-led initiative ‘Rotaract Club of Bukit Kiara Sunrise.’ She decided to head the fundraiser as part of her Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project, an essential component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). CAS is where students undergo real-life experiences shaped through collaboration towards a collective goal and vision.

“I am immensely grateful for the overwhelming support for the project. It was inspiring to see everyone help Malaysians facing financial aid difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic. Witnessing first-hand the struggles faced by these families was eye-opening, and our club hopes to continue supporting them in future projects.,” says Nurin.
