Circular Economy

Another successful Day of AMCHAM’s Sustainability Week, this time with the theme of achieving a “Circular Economy”. Since maintaining operational activities of a business is vital, minimizing the negative impact it has on the environment and society is equally vital to achieve a circular economy. For more on how to achieve this, our 2 panels for the day and guest speaker came on board to share their insights and best practices which participants found it very useful.

The first panel on “Resource Management” talked about how their respective organizations manage the natural resources and wastes, ensuring business and environment sustainability. Panelists consisted of Kirsten Van Zandwijk, Sustainability & Partnerships Director ASEAN & South Pacific, Coca-Cola Malaysia, Andreas Phil, Executive Vice President (Technology & Portfolio), Nefab Group, and Ralph Dixon, Director of Environmental Investors, YTL Corporation Berhad moderated by Jenny Foo, former Communications Director for Keysight Technologies.

The second panel featured Dominic Chew, General Manager, HP Malaysia Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, Sven Ruytinx, Head of Supply Chain & Operations, South East Asia, Accenture, and Dr. Debabratar Ghosh, Associate Professor at Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) moderated by Fabian Er, Director, Samtec Asia Pacific (M) Sdn Bhd. This panel discussion went in detail into managing supply chains, keeping them in check and encouraging supply chains to embrace sustainability.

Our special guest speaker, Datin Sunita Rajakumar, Founder, Climate Governance Malaysia presented about the importance of making a circular economy, the situation in Malaysia, and how to create a circular system, ensuring sustainability.

The third day of our Sustainability Week was also meaningful and an eye-opener. Special thanks to our event partners Philip Morris Malaysia, Accenture and First Solar for supporting this weeks’ program, and thank you to all our speakers and our special guest.
