Facebook Rebrands To Meta

Facebook has officially changed its name to Meta according to founder Mark Zuckerberg, the planning for the name change began in 2019 as the company wanted to give people a clearer identity of the name that had more than one product.

The name Meta reflects on the journey Facebook is taking, as the metaverse is the next evolution of social technology — where people are able to share immersive experiences with one another in a virtual setting.

“Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future. Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company, and I want to anchor our work and identity on what we’re building toward.”-Mark Zuckerberg, 2021

We chose “Meta” because it can mean “beyond.” This next chapter is a future made by all of us that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today — beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even physics. For our company, Meta is a reminder that there is always more to build.

While the name change will be a new chapter forward for Facebook it also comes at a time the company faces continuous scrutiny from regulators and its founder’s leadership qualities questioned.
