The Future of Energy: Powering Our World

Day 2 of AMCHAM’s Sustainability Week went on very well, this time on The Future of Energy: Powering Our World. Often the challenge for various businesses and industries is to navigate the environmental costs while trying to achieve sustainability. Today’s discussion mainly surrounded the energy industry as 2 panels revealed their initiatives in finding a solution and discussed the challenges involved in actualizing the sustainable business practices.

The first panel Dealing with Carbon Emissions, featured Abdul Rahman Abu Haniffa, Government Affairs & Policy Director, General Electric, Rosman Hamzah, Secretary General, Malaysian Gas Association, Jens Rupp, Head of Environmental Sustainability, Philip Morris Malaysia and Dr Hjh Yatela Zainal Abidin, Chief Executive Officer, Sime Darby Foundation moderated by AMCHAM’s CEO Siobhan Das. The panellists shared their experiences as their respective organizations moved from environmentally unfriendly to a more sustainable model and how they navigate through the challenges faced.

Second panel focused on Renewable Energy: Crucial for Sustainability with a robust discussion on various alternative sources and why they are imperative for a sustainable future. Participants also got to learn more about how solar companies are preparing themselves for this green future. This panel featured Antoine Waschal, Manager – Business Development and Sales, SE Asia, First Solar FE Holdings Pte Ltd, Kee Chin Khoo Khor, Manager – WWTP, UPW & Waste Management, First Solar (M) Sdn Bhd, and Ugo Siegfried Bernal,VP Sustainability Solutions, BECIS moderated by Dr Wei-Nee Chen, Vice President, New Energy Ventures in Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd.
