MDEC gets ex-MACC investigator as new integrity officer

MDEC gets ex-MACC investigator as new integrity officerTHE Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced the appointment of Mohamad Zakkuan Talib (pic) as its certified integrity officer to ensure that it operates with a high level of integrity and governance across the organisation.

In tandem with this, MDEC also recently signed the Declaration of Corruption-Free Pledge in March 2021, it said in a statement.

MDEC said Mohamad Zakkuan is responsible for leading and driving the effectiveness of the implementation of the integrity and governance department (IGD).

He will be involved in the implementation of initiatives to curb any misconduct and violations of the code of conduct wihtin MDEC, it added.

MDEC said Mohamad Zakuan’s remit includes providing advisory to MDEC's senior management and board on matters related to governance and integrity.

He will advise and monitor the detection, assessment and verification on reports of complaints on misconduct, corruption and violations of the code of conduct and ethics of the organisation as well as ensure that appropriate actions are taken, it added.

Mohamad Zakkuan will also act as point of liaison with various authorities and inculcate a culture of transparency amongst the workforce in discharging their duties, MDEC said.

“Mohamad Zakkuan represents the final piece of our 'Reinvent' mission at MDEC and will enable us to operate at a high level of governance and integrity. His appointment will ensure MDEC will be able to carry out its digital mandate without favour of colour, creed or influence,” said Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff, chairman of MDEC.  

“Transparency, accountability and integrity are non-negotiables in any organisations and MDEC has taken an extra step in ensuring we can perform at a high level of governance with Mohamad Zakkuan’s appointment,” said Surina Shukri, chief executive officer of MDEC.

“I will continue serving the nation as I have always have and this appointment represents an unique opportunity for me to bring my expertise and experience to enhance governance of a very important piece of machinery in our nation’s digital economy,” said Mohamad Zakkuan.  

Mohamad Zakkuan began his career in 1999 serving as the head of investigation unit of the Perlis Malaysian Anti Corruption Commision (MACC). Later, he also served various senior capacities within MACC.

He last served as the head of department of MACC Negeri Sembilan prior to his appointment at MDEC. He holds a Master of Laws from Universiti MARA.
