Dell to help M'sian businesses sustainably retire IT gear

  • To help customers receive value from existing IT assets
  • Recovered more than 2.5 billion electronics since 2008

Dell to help M'sian businesses sustainably retire IT gearDell Technologies has announced the expansion of its Asset Recovery Services with new availability in Malaysia.

In a statement, Dell said the service supports any brand of laptop, desktop, server, peripheral or accessory, helping customers receive value from existing IT assets and implement sustainable recycling and recovery services at scale.

Dell claimed that since 2008, it has recovered more than 2.5 billion electronics through its takeback programs, supporting businesses in sustainably retiring IT assets.

It said its Asset Recovery Services provides a modern, simplified, and standardised offer to help customers scale their recycling efforts.

The offer includes a new, online self-service portal that simplifies asset disposition even more – providing businesses with real-time value estimates, comprehensive resources and streamlined takeback of devices, it added.

Pang Yee Beng, senior vice president, south Asia and managing director of Dell Technologies Malaysia, said the improper disposal of electronic and electrical products, or e-waste as we call it, is becoming an emerging threat in today's environment.

“Seeing how businesses are rapidly employing the newest technology as they evolve, Dell sees the need to provide a modern and simple solution through the Asset Recovery Services to help reduce the environmental impact of discarded e-waste that are substantially being produced every year.

“Through this initiative, we aim to realise our ambitious goal of recycling or reusing one device for each one sold by 2030,” said Pang.

Dell said it simplifies the experience for customers with no unit minimums for businesses of all sizes, whether managing a central or remote workforce.

The company said this service offers the flexibility and control to oversee and track the entire process online via the self-service portal.

Customers can benefit from real-time value estimates to get the most out of their equipment and simplify their systems’ lifecycle, it added.

According to Dell, when customers turn in their devices, data is removed in alignment with data sanitisation standards to minimise customer exposure to data security breaches.

Its Asset Recovery Services now offer extra options for added protection which include:

  • Onsite data sanitisation – Data is cleared from devices onsite before the equipment leaves a customer’s facility; and
  • Onsite hard-drive shred – Hard drives with data are disposed of through physical destruction and recycled according to local guidelines.

Asset Recovery Services is available through Dell and its channel partners.
