MITEC To Operate As A Vaccination Centre Starting May 31

The Malaysian Government has sanctioned for the country’s largest international exhibition venue, the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) to operate as a vaccination centre starting from 31 May 2021.

With the urgent need to combat Covid-19 and the functionality of convention centres being converted to vaccination centres, MITEC will be the latest to be endorsed by the Government to participate in this service to the Nation.

“It is important during these challenging times for both the public and private sectors to come together to help the Nation achieve herd immunity and flatten the curve. We at MITEC, are humbled by this opportunity to play our part and open our doors to this meaningful drive against Covid-19,” said Tan Sri Abdul Rahman bin Mamat, Chairman of Prisma Galeri Sdn Bhd, which manages MITEC and is a subsidiary wholly owned by Naza Corporation Holdings (NCH).

The Centre, which spans across 75.5 acres in the KL Metropolis with 51,000 sqm of event space is selected for its capacity to accommodate large numbers. Catering to the needs of the country for mass vaccination, MITEC will start admission for senior citizens to assist government to help ease congestion and overcrowding at current venues.

Trained to operate large scale business events as its core function, MITEC will be providing the operational support whilst the vaccination process is handled by the Jabatan Kesihatan Titiwangsa and Jabatan Kesihatan Manjalara (District Health Offices) under Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH). This is also a shift for the vaccination programme being carried out at The Manjalara Community Hall PPV and the Titiwangsa Stadium PPV to MITEC.

Acting CEO, Mala Dorasamy shared that a team of professional experts from medical to events management will be present to handle the administration of an initial daily dosage of 2,600 for trial phase.

She said, “This will potentially increase from 5,000 to 8,000 per day. MITEC is also able to cater for individuals who are physically challenged”.

Stressing the adherence to strict SOPs for social distancing and crowd control especially with the presence of high-risk category of senior citizens, Mala assured that guidelines are in place and will be communicated throughout the process.

“There would only be one entrance and exit via the South Entrance and only confirmed registrations will be admitted. Due to the safety of everyone, walk-ins will not be permitted with only registered persons with appointments being allowed in one mega station that spans across two multi-function halls,” she explained.

The Centre is in final preparations to ensure high levels of safety and hygiene as this remains the priority.

Confirmed registrations can make their way to MITEC between 8.00am – 5.00pm for their vaccines. For visitors who are physically challenged in terms of mobility, MITEC will provide amenities such as buggy pick-ups at the carpark, wheelchairs, and special lanes. MITEC is accessible via major expressways including DUKE (Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway), NKVE (North Klang Valley Expressway), SPRINT Highway and Jalan Kuching. All e-hailing passengers should be dropped off at the South Entrance
