The Citi Foundation recently announced 50 community organisations around the world as recipients of the 2024 Global Innovation Challenge’s collective $25 million grant to advancing solutions to homelessness. EPIC, an award-winning non-profit organisation with a primary focus on building secure homes for Orang Asli families became the first Malaysian NGO to receive USD500,000 grant (approximately RM2 million) for a two-year grant until 2026 in a bid to tackle the lack of safe housing amongst the Orang Asli community.

The Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Act 2024 (‘SOCSO Amendment Act’) and the Employment Insurance System (Amendment) Act 2024 (‘EIS Amendment Act’) will come into operation on 1 October 2024.

The SOCSO Amendment Act and the EIS Amendment Act will increase the maximum limit of the monthly wages of an employee from RM5,000 to RM6,000 per month for the purposes of determining the contribution and coverage under the Social Security Act 1969 and the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 respectively.

On 20 September 2024, the Energy Commission issued the Guidelines ("Guidelines") for the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) which was introduced earlier this year. The CRESS aims to promote the adoption of green energy amongst corporate companies in Peninsular Malaysia by allowing participants to supply or purchase electricity through open access to the grid network system with a predetermined system access charge.

Cisco, a global leader in networking and security, has formalised three collaborations aimed at driving AI-led innovation in Malaysia during its inaugural AI Day event. The company announced its partnership with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to launch an AI hackathon designed to bridge the AI skills gap and provide students with valuable hands-on experience.

This week, FedEx Corporation transported six giant pandas between the United States and China on two separate flights. The roundtrip journey departed Atlanta, GA., arrived in Chengdu, China, where it delivered four pandas and then returned to Washington, D.C. with two pandas. The pandas traveled aboard a FedEx Boeing 777-F, known as the “FedEx Panda Express.”
