Following the recent introduction of advertising requirements for expatriate positions via the national employment portal MYFutureJobs, which will come into effect 1 January 2021, the Malaysian government has carved out exemptions for certain expatriate positions. Automatic exemptions, without the need to go through any additional process with the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) before applying to the approving agency and Immigration, will be given for a few types of posts.

Enhanced movement control order will be imposed at Pusat Pemulihan Akhlak (PPA) Muar from Thursday to Jan 6, as 20 detainees have tested positive for COVID-19. Senior minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the PPA, which has been used as a transit centre for convicts since November before they were transferred to designated prisons, had recorded an increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases.

The US government will pay Pfizer Inc nearly US$2 billion for 100 million additional doses of its COVID-19 vaccine to bolster its supply as the country grapples with a nationwide spike in infections. The company will deliver at least 70 million doses by June 30 and the rest no later than July 31, Pfizer said on Wednesday, bringing the total number of doses to 200 million for a total price of about US$4 billion.
