A growing number of women are breaking barriers in fields like finance, science and technology. And while equality in these industries won’t happen overnight — women still account for about a third of those in scientific research and development — they are working hard to create a path that may be easier for the next generation.

The first National Women's Day was celebrated in 1909 and while Women's Days were marked in various countries for the next 100 years, an online portal was launched in 2001 to re-energize their efforts and bring them all together in one virtual place. This year's theme is #ChoosetoChallenge, calling on us all to think critically about our own thoughts and actions and how we can better promote gender inequality and celebrate women's achievements.

Police roadblocks around Putrajaya remain despite it being placed under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) since March 5, said Putrajaya District Police chief ACP Mohd Fadzil Ali. He said that roadblocks and random police checks would continue to be conducted around Putrajaya to ensure the public did not enter without a letter of permission so as to protect the district from the risk of COVID-19 infection.

General practitioners in the private healthcare sector will be involved in administering COVID-19 vaccination shots from the second phase onwards to boost the government’s coverage of the national immunisation programme. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the private GPs would be administering the vaccines to recipients under phase two and phase three of the vaccination programme.

Malaysia will receive 32 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines by this year as part of a new agreement signed with the government, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin announced. The supply is an increase from the previous signed deal from the US-based drug manufacturer and will cover the first dose requirement of virtually all of the country’s population.

Mondelēz International has discovered that Malaysians turned to snacking as an important source of comfort and nourishment last year. Despite the new norm and current challenges, Mondelēz International Managing Director for Malaysia and Singapore, James Kane, said more than half of adults around the world (52%) revealed that snacking has been a ‘lifeline’ during the outbreak.

In Malaysia, collection, processing, storage, transfer and retention of individuals’ personal data are governed under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010. The Act regulates the processing of personal data in commercial transactions in Malaysia. In 2019, the Personal Data Protection Commissioner Malaysia (PDPCM) has undertaken the Act’s compliance inspections on business and commercial entities operating in Malaysia.
