The World Bank has lowered Malaysia’s GDP growth to 4.5% this year from 6% earlier amid a dramatic resurgence of the COVID-19 virus beginning in mid-April 2021. This recent spike in infections is raising concerns about the overall capacity of Malaysia’s health system and the effects of the ongoing cycle of opening and closing the economy on households and firms.

The Special COVID-19 vaccination programme for Malaysian sailors and port workers in the Klang Valley will begin this Friday (June 25). The Marine Department of Malaysia (JLM) said the targets of the programme were sailors actively working in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia has reached another milestone in the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines as it crossed the 250,000 daily dose mark on Tuesday (June 22). 250,529 doses were administered throughout the country yesterday. Out of that figure, 190,244 doses that were given were the first doses, while the remaining 60,285 doses were second doses.

Micron Technology Inc announced the successful completion of its participation in the nation’s PIKAS program by vaccinating 2,200 of its staff. The effort has resulted in efficient patient registration and safe administration of the vaccines under the collaboration with Bukit Jawi Golf Resort Vaccination Centre in Penang and appointed medical service provider, Qualitas.

Hospital Ampang has close to 150 COVID patients now in, and for the past few weeks the hospital has been expanding the wards in terms of manpower, equipment, and proper isolation spaces.
