As Malaysia gradually reopens, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to play a significant role on businesses and livelihoods. AMCHAM will continue to bring you daily updates on the latest COVID-19 developments, which includes vaccination updates, Government-issued orders, regulations, and SOPs as well as initiatives from related bodies and organizations.
AMCHAM's CEO Siobhan Das together with Steve Okun, Senior Advisor, McLarty Associates, a member of AMCHAM, recently wrote an article on the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), citing Malaysia's role for multinational companies and the importance and benefits of the CPTPP as well as the Regional Economic Comprehensive Partnership (RCEP).
The SOPs for the different phases of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) have been updated. Notable updates involve movement control, education sector, perks for the fully vaccinated citizens and more. A total of 60.1% of Malaysia's population or 19,633,681 people have completed their vaccinations as of Sunday (Sept 26). 69.9% of Malaysia's population or 22,834,060 people have received at least a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Of Malaysia's adult population, 83.7% have completed their COVID-19 vaccinations while another 93.7% have received at least one dose.

The government has made its decision on the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme. After being suspended for a year, the programme will be reactivated in October. Any foreigner planning to retire in Malaysia will need to comply with the new financial requirements that have been increased by three to six times. The duration of the visa, meanwhile, has been halved to five years from 10.
